THIS PAINTING REMINDS ME OF...

On the right is the Goya painting. I won't tell you the title since that might prejudice your remarks. No, it's not called "Dr. Schmoll grades his students harshly."

...and the painting is titled, "Saturn Devours his Son."

Can you think of alternate titles?

Uh oh, sorry about that. The painting was not intended as an appetite supressant, but I can see how it might work that way.

it reminds me of my humanities class in highschool. It was the first painting we ever studied. I think it was a romanticism painting. I won't ruin the title for the rest of the class. But Goya is a very amazing painter yet i find a little disturbing because from what i remember it was one of the paintings he hung in his living room, imagine seeing that haha. I cant really say anything about it because i will probably ruin it. I kind of got a head start.

it reminds me of how our way of life is right now, "eat or be eaten"

This painting reminds me of....

somone eatin a really cheesy pizza with a pair of legs hangin off it or somthing.

This painting reminds me of King Kong. I had the hardest time thinking of the name I thought Hong Kong and Donkey Kong but then I remembered :-) It reminds me of King Kong because the eater looks somewhat like a giant monkey. Although I know the woman was not actually eaten.

it remains me of creature that is very mad on something, and that will eat everything on his way. His eyes are scary!

This painting reminds me of a demond eating something that is important.

I agree. It reminds me of king kong for some odd reason. i see the similarities between the creature in the painting and an ape or maybe even big foot. The painting is actually kind of bone-chilling. I feel bad for the person that creature is consuming. Why is the person naked? is it a lady or a man?

This painting is very odd, is like a demon is eating its prey.

an episode on the show Criminal Minds. They showed this particular painting on a case about cannibalism.

It reminds me of the creature from Pans Laberinth (the movie) except as a lion and instead of eating fairy's and babies, it eats people....

man this picture is really weird...
but at the same time its very interesting especially if you have the imagination. I see many different things but what stands out the most is the human...

This painting reminds me of a wicked CEO chewing off his employee's head because he lost several billion dollars of the company's money.

I know what this painting is about, but I rather tell you what I thought of it before I knew. I thought this was an imaginary self portrait of the artist and that he was crazy, so crazy that he expressed his emotions through his paintings. The man in the painting is very angry at society and chews off their heads for criticizing his work. That's what I thought, but Goya is a very unique artist...

This painting reminds me of a evil skeleton creature in a scary movie. With his long, thin body, it seems as if he has alien features, except the head. The head is awkward. The face reminds me of Russell Brand! Another awkward moment! But I see alien in this painting.

Wow, what a graphic painting. It reminds me of cannibalism, yes; there's blood, gore, and flesh all implied by the painting. People really need to eat to live, not live to eat...

I really don't care what this picture reminds me of! Im mad at you Dr. Schmoll! How dare you not show up for class today! All you had to do is take a bit of dayquill and you would've been all better. Now im sitting here with Krista waiting for the library to open, and leaving this comment through my phone. :(

P.S.
Im just kidding. Hope you feel better :)

This picture reminds me of...a scary movie like the Texas Chainsaw Massacre or especially Prom Night. It seems like EVERYONE in Prom Night is killed. This picture is very depressing, just like the movie is!

P.S. I hope you feel better Dr. Schmoll!!

This painting to me seems like that the monster is the devil and the person of course is us. The devil tries to eat you and he tries to warp you in and sometimes we cant get out and we are the human.

this painting reminds me of EEEEEEEWWWW!!!! what was that artist thinking? maybe he was really hungry or angry at someone. but i think its a little graphic. which is probably what the artist intended to do. but maybe, dr. schmoll, you should have had a compare and contrast picture with it.

Dr. Brett Schmoll said...

Good idea, on the compare and contrast. I'll add one now to see if it helps us understand the picture better.

Anonymous said...

i think that the picture is of you Dr. schmoll! but it looks like you can't decide which one's head to rip off, but that other picture didn't think too much about it; he just did. the other thing is by his feet and when he gets done with the thing in his mouth, he'll get the other thing. i say go for the one one the left!

"The Darkness of My Mind"
titles of paintings can be anything. perhaps unrelated to the subject, actually sometimes the title has more meaning then the painting it self.

this painting is extremely creepy. but it reminds me of the beast from the lord of the Rings gandolf dies fighting against.

dartagnon said...

I beg to differ. For some unholy reason I see this painting as the underdog relenquenching his hostility on his owner. How many times have you ever wanted the underdog to win? Root for the helpless woman. Root for the bad guys. I see a whole nation of under privileged children so skinny and so dominant able to take this once in lifetime strength for just a few moments to conquer his superiors. I don't know... But, that's what I see in this painting.

This neither reminds me of azzy oz bourne or makes me loose my appetite, but instead it reminds me of a book or discussion that i had in high school about the levels on hell and how on one of the levels one is to be tortured by a giant.

nikko said...

WTF!?!? <---- that should be a fitting title.

for some reason, it reminds me of the disney movie hercules. when he's fighting the dragon thing where everytime he cuts a head, three come up. Until he gets eaten by one of them!

i would call it

"meat on a stick, with the sweet honey bbq" (the kind from FAMOUS DAVES)
